Orioles first baseman Chris Davis did not get the start on Friday night in Boston, but still managed to extend his hitless streak to 54 consecutive at-bats. He was brought in to pinch hit in the top of the 9th inning with two outs.
Red Sox fans greeted the struggling hitter with chants of “MVP.” Davis hit a soft line drive on a 3-2 fastball that was caught by the second baseman who was shift over into shallow rightfield to end the game.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde must have had dinner reservations. Why else would you bring in Davis with two outs in the 9th? Imagine being the guy who gets lifted for Mr. 0-for the season. That had to be a blow to his confidence.
