Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn announced Wednesday that Tyrod Taylor will open the season as his team’s starting quarterback, according to NFL Network’s Omar Ruiz.
“Tyrod Taylor’s our starter,” Anthony Lynn says about his quarterback competition currently. Said that’ll be the case going into the season & until that’s proven otherwise.

This means rookie first-rounder Justin Herbert will kick off his NFL career as Taylor’s backup.
It sounds like Tyrod is just a savvy veteran placeholder until Herbert is ready.
