Dotel still faces a charge for illegal possession of a firearm and must pay a million pesos – $20,000 – for bail, according to Rojas.
“The judge found that my client has nothing to do with the charges imputed to him by the public prosecutor,” Dotel’s lawyer Manuel Sierra said by telephone, according to Rojas. “About the firearm that was seized in one of his vehicles, we have the documentation that proves that it is not illegal and we will present it in the court in a timely manner.
“The authorities owe public excuses to Octavio Dotel,” Sierra added.
Dotel retired from baseball in 2014 following a 15-year career where he played for 13 teams.
