Panthers quarterback Cam Newton made a radio appearance on Wednesday in his hometown of Atlanta, which also happens to be hosting this year’s Super Bowl. He was asked about his surgically repaired right shoulder and gave a positive update.
Cam said the shoulder was “good” and “better than he thought it would be” after undergoing his second shoulder surgery in three years.
That is definitely a good sign for the Panthers and their fans, especially after the rumors that Newton could sit out the entire 2019 season due to the injury.

“It’s good. It’s good,” Newton said of his shoulder during a morning appearance on radio 680 The Fan in Atlanta, his hometown and the site of Super Bowl LIII between New England and the Los Angeles Rams. “It’s better than I thought it would be. With so much going on throughout this season, I was in fear to see what actually was wrong.”
Newton, who published the interview on his Instagram story, was not asked about the rehabilitation time or when he might start throwing. The team also has not given a timetable.
This gives Carolina a lot of hope that he’ll be much closer to 100% at the beginning of the year than originally expected.
