Boston Bruins center David Backes left Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Coyotes in the first period after taking skate to the face.
The injury happened when Coyotes’ defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson fell down in front of him and kicked his foot up in the air.
Backes immediately went down holding his face before jumping up and rushing back to the locker room to have his injuries taken care of.

It doesn’t look great, but Backes is a hockey player and we wouldn’t be surprised if he got stitched up and was back on the ice later on in the game.
