Boston Red Sox second baseman Brock Holt had to leave Friday night’s win over the Tigers early after Detroit’s Jeimer Candelario spiked him in the knee on a play at second base.
Despite reacting to the cleat to the knee like his bone was sticking through his skin, he just has a knee contusion and is listed as day to day.
Here’s the play, complete with the soft overreaction of a drama queen. Holt could have very easily avoided the cleat to the knee if he had wanted to, but chose to block the base without the ball.

If Holt can’t handle a little contact around the bag, maybe he’s playing the wrong position. But I would guess there would be something about all of the positions that he wouldn’t be able to handle.
