Reds centerfielder Billy Hamilton is known for his blazing speed and flashing the leather. He needed both and an ability to climb the wall to rob Matt Carpenter of a home run on Friday night.
The ball looked like it carried on Hamilton. He seemed to be getting ready to camp under a routine fly ball when he suddenly turned and ran to the wall.
The play was anything but routine and Hamilton had to climb the wall to bring the home run back and end the inning. That’s a clear catch of the year candidate.
You can’t teach speed and you can’t teach home run robbery. Some guys are just better at it than others. Hamilton can do both.
