Thursday afternoon marked the return of Major League Baseball for most teams. Thanks to Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez, it also marked the return of bat flips on routine fly balls.
Sanchez put a decent swing on a pitch, threw his bat away and looked at the dugout like he got all of it. He didn’t.
While the ball did carry to the warning track, it was a fairly routine fly ball. Sanchez goes in the books as the first bat flip on a ball that wasn’t a home run.

Don’t worry, there will be plenty more where that came from. This game number 1 of 162. Bat flips left and right every time a ball is hit.
