Baker Mayfield revealed on the latest episode of “Behind Baker” that he hung up on Brett Favre’s agent, Bus Cook. The reason behind the hang up? Cook asked him about being recruited by Oklahoma.
If you didn’t know, as apparently Bus didn’t, Baker wasn’t highly recruited and had to scratch and claw his way to Oklahoma. He first walked on at Texas Tech before transferring to Oklahoma.
Via Oklahoma Diehards:
“Bus Cook, Brett Favre’s agent, great story. Every agent does the same thing, they give their résumé, what they’re about, all this stuff,” Mayfield said. “Finally, when he was about to give me a chance to talk, he asked, ‘So, when did Bob Stoops start recruiting you?’ And I said ‘Excuse me?’ and then he repeated the question.”
“I just said ‘I gotta go’ and then I hung up. It’s like, if you’re going to pursue a guy and say that you want him and you want to be that guy that’s going to be there for him, why not do your research?”
You can’t blame Baker for that. It’s a pretty well known fact that he had to walk on before transferring to Oklahoma. If you’re an agent at the professional level you have to do your homework.
