Houston Astros starter Justin Verlander went eight scoreless innings, giving up three hits while striking out 14. The Yankees pitching matched Verlander and the game was scoreless heading into the ninth.
That’s when the Astros brought in reliever Ken Giles and he proceeded to blow the game. He recorded one out while giving up four runs, three of the runs coming on a Gary Sanchez homerun.
After Giles was lifted he let his frustration out and during a meltdown he punched himself in the face. Who needs enemies when you unload on yourself after losing a game?
Maybe next time leave the guy who is cruising in the game. I know your precious pitch count won’t allow it, but this is what can happen when you let a number dictate how you manage instead of the actual game itself.
