Hurricanes rookie Andrei Svechnikov made the mistake of trying to go toe-to-toe with Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin. It didn’t end well for the 19-year-old.
Ovechkin weathered a flurry of punches before unleashing a couple of huge right hands that turned off Svechnikov’s lights. Following the knockout, he had trouble making it to his skates.

Ovechkin went to the penalty box following the fight and Svechnikov went in for medical attention. It’s safe to say the rookie’s night is over.
Although it is the NHL and they seem to play it a little fast and loose with their head injury policy. They aren’t as strict as other leagues are with the whole concussion protocol.
