Well file this one under the biggest blowout of all time. Talk about a fantasy dream if you had any of these players, but of course it’s high school baseball, so pretty unlikely.

Here’s the story via Boston Herald

Old Rochester baseball coach Steve Carvalho couldn’t sleep last night.

His team traveled 88 miles to Notre Dame Cristo Rey in Lawrence and proceeded to post the most lopsided victory on record in state history, 82-0. The Bulldogs scored 12 runs in the first inning and that proved to a harbinger of things to come as the visitors tacked on 20 in the second inning.

Carvalho, who has been the head coach at the school for the past 19 years, realizes the program will catch heat for the final margin of victory.

“I’m sick to my stomach over this,” Carvalho said. “We really tried everything possible. We told the kids don’t take extra bases, no sprinting – we even had kids bunting and they couldn’t make the routine plays. We had kids hitting balls 300 feet and jogging to first.

“We even asked that they stop the game after four innings and they said no. Believe me, we exhausted all options in our power.”

The fact that the game was scheduled was a little bit of a headscratcher in itself. Old Rochester is a solid Div. 3 program, while Notre Dame Cristo Rey is a small Div. 4 school with 103 boys and little athletic tradition. Carvalho admitted he was partly to blame for adding the two games.

For those interested in history, the most one-sided victory in high school history according to the National Federation of High School Record Book occurred on April 26, 1928 when Atlantic (Iowa) rolled to a 109-0 victory over Griswold.

Winning pitcher Don King tossed a no-hitter, striking out 16 and helped his own cause by going 15-for-17 at the plate. Even more incredulous is the fact losing pitcher John Gustim pitched all eight innings (the game was stopped after eight), allowing 92 hits and watching as his defense committed 22 errors.

This is just insane. The winning coach felt terrible about destroying his opponent, well how do you think the other team felt. There should be a skunk rule in place so something like this doesn’t happen. Maybe 21-0 and the game is called. LOL.
